Cable Length

Yes — a NACS-to-NACS extension cable safely adds vehicle-side reach when it uses heavy-gauge copper conductors and pass-through NACS signaling. The WenStorm Tesla/NACS Extension Cord does exactly that: 21 to 50 feet of vehicle-side reach, 50A across all lengths, 8 AWG pure copper conductors — without extending the wall-outlet side of the charger.

Not a wall-outlet extension. This is a vehicle-side cable — it goes between the EV charger's built-in NACS connector and the car's charging inlet, never between the wall outlet and the charger. If your problem is the wall outlet being too far from the parking spot, install a properly rated dedicated circuit closer to the vehicle instead; household and NEMA extension cords are generally not appropriate for continuous EV charging. See Can You Use an Extension Cord With an EV Charger? for the full supply-side vs vehicle-side breakdown.

Tesla note: Tesla's Gen 2 Mobile Connector owner's manual explicitly prohibits supply-side extension cords. If you drive a Tesla and use a NACS Wall Connector or other NACS EVSE, confirm that unit's specific installation guide permits a vehicle-side extension between the EVSE and your car before using this cable. WenStorm does not recommend pairing this extension with the Tesla Mobile Connector or Tesla Wall Connector unless Tesla's own instructions expressly permit the exact configuration for your unit.

At a glance: NACS-to-NACS extension · 21, 25, 30, 40, and 50 ft lengths · 50A across all lengths · 8 AWG pure copper conductors · Built with UL 2263-certified EV cable (Cert No. UL-US-2407470-0) · Cold-flexible to -22°F · 2-year warranty.

Can you use an extension cable with a Tesla or NACS EV charger?

Yes — on the vehicle side, when your specific Tesla or NACS EVSE's instructions permit it. The extension inserts between the EVSE's built-in NACS connector and your car's NACS inlet, adding 21 to 50 feet of reach. It does not extend the wall-outlet side of a portable EVSE, and it does not modify the EVSE's built-in signaling or safety protections.

Before charging with this extension, always verify:

  1. Your EVSE's manual permits a vehicle-side extension. Tesla's Gen 2 Mobile Connector explicitly prohibits supply-side extensions; treat the manual as authoritative for your specific unit.
  2. The extension's current rating matches or exceeds your EVSE's output. The WenStorm cable is 50A across all lengths.
  3. Local electrical code allows the total cable length. NEC 625.17(C) limits the overall usable EVSE cord/cable length to 25 ft unless a cable-management system is part of the listed EVSE. See the NEC 625.17(C) note in our safety guide for details.

Which WenStorm variant should I buy?

Match the length to your routed path — the distance the cable will actually follow between the EVSE's cable end and your car's NACS inlet, not the straight-line distance. Add 3 to 5 feet of slack so the cable never sits taut.

  • 21 ft: Same-wall garage where the outlet is close to the parked vehicle's inlet side.
  • 25 ft: Standard home garage with the outlet on the opposite wall or ceiling.
  • 30 ft: Long garages, tandem parking, or workshop setups.
  • 40 ft: Detached garage or driveway extension from a garage-mounted EVSE.
  • 50 ft: Backyard parking pad or a detached workshop reached from a house-mounted EVSE. Do NOT route across a public sidewalk, driveway, or street — that creates a trip and traffic hazard and is often prohibited by local ordinance.

See the length-planning framework for a walk-through of how to measure the routed path with real garage examples.

Key features

Vehicle-side extension only — not for the wall-outlet side

The NACS connector on each end is physically incompatible with any household or NEMA wall receptacle. This is a purpose-built EV extension for the segment between the EVSE's built-in NACS handle and your car's NACS inlet. Do not use it to extend the wall side of a portable EVSE.

50A across all lengths

Rated for continuous 50A operation at 240V. The 8 AWG pure copper conductors are sized for the full 50A rating end-to-end regardless of length — a shorter cable is NOT electrically "more capable" here; every length carries the same maximum continuous current.

True 8 AWG pure copper conductors

Built with 8 AWG pure copper core for strong conductivity, stable power transfer, and cooler operation under continuous load compared with thinner 10 AWG cables sometimes sold at lower price points.

Cold-flexible to -22°F

The TPU jacket and connector housing remain flexible in typical winter garage temperatures down to -22°F. In extreme cold, all EV cables become somewhat stiffer — this is normal and reversible; the cable returns to full flexibility once warmed.

Charge-port-friendly connector fit

The NACS connector housing is designed for a secure yet smooth fit at the vehicle inlet, reducing wear on your car's charge port during repeated plugging and unplugging.

Built with UL 2263-certified EV cable

The EV cable material is UL 2263-certified (Cert No. UL-US-2407470-0) at the cable-material level — a component-level safety listing for EV cable stock. See the WenStorm Certification Center for the specific certificate. The finished extension assembly's design uses this certified cable throughout.

Made for Tesla / NACS AC charging (Level 1 and Level 2)

Designed to extend compatible Level 1 and Level 2 NACS AC chargers for home, garage, driveway, and travel use. Not compatible with Tesla Superchargers or any DC fast-charging station. DC fast-charge cables use different connectors, signaling, and cooling architectures and cannot be extended by any AC-rated cable.
