The outdoor rating on chargers usually means the housing resists water intrusion, but cable flexibility and charge speed can still tank at extreme cold, and condensation can get inside connectors. What model charger do you have, and was it hardwired or using an extension? That changes failure points.

My charger’s a hardwired Level 2 (Siemens, 2018) and hasn’t failed at -30°C, but charge speed drops if the connector’s iced. Outdoor rating kept water out—didn’t stop the latch from freezing. If you can’t unplug, don’t force it; I use a mitt to warm the latch, then wait.

My third winter, the charger unit survived but the cable jacket cracked below -15°C. I tried using a hairdryer too, but after one season the cable jacket started splitting along the length where the outer sheath stiffened and cracked. Toughest cable I’ve handled was the ClipperCreek—stiff but didn’t crack at -28°C. JuiceBox gets bendy like licorice at anything warmer than -10, then brick-hard below. None actually stay flexible at -20. If you store coiled, they last longer.

Central Canada regularly sits at -20°C for weeks at a stretch, and every EV I've serviced through a stretch like that loses 30-40% range — mostly the cabin heater load, not the pack itself actually shrinking. Preconditioning while still plugged in recovers a good chunk of that since you're pulling the heat energy from the wall instead of the battery.
