For comparison, our two circuits are a 14-50 (dedicated 50A breaker, no adapter, trouble-free for two years on the Ioniq 5) and an older 10-30 the house came with for the dryer. The 10-30 only works through an adapter and was never really designed for the kind of continuous draw an EVSE wants to pull off it — that mismatch is probably why yours ran warm and wiggled. Worth checking what your adapter/EVSE combo is actually asking that circuit to sustain versus what a 10-30 is rated for.

If your charger or its cable is labeled "outdoor rated," check for both an NEMA enclosure rating (like NEMA 3R, 4 or 4X) and an IP code, ideally specified in the technical manual—not just on the box. Many so-called all-weather chargers only certify the enclosure, not the connectors or cables. Did your charger’s manual list the actual test conditions for cold and moisture?

IP66 rated outdoor gear should handle basically all outdoor conditions—rain, snow, cold, whatever. If something IP66 cracked after a winter, I’d check if it actually met that rating or if the connector cap wasn’t tight. IP66 is almost bulletproof in theory.
