The WenStorm 32A J1772 Portable EV Charger solves home Level 2 charging for non-Tesla EV owners who already have a NEMA 14-50 outlet and don't want a permanent wall installation. It plugs directly into a compatible 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet, delivers up to 7.7 kW, and adds approximately 20–30 miles of range per hour on typical passenger EVs. No electrician appointment, no wall mount, no drilled bracket. Ships in a J1772 or NACS variant selected at order.

At a glance:240V Level 2 · 32A max · Up to 7.7 kW · NEMA 14-50 fixed plug · 25 ft cable · J1772 or NACS connector (choose at order) · IP55 · 2-year warranty

Which EVs does it fit?

The J1772 variant fits any US-market EV or plug-in hybrid with a J1772 charging port. That includes many model years of Ford (Mach-E, Escape PHEV, F-150 Lightning pre-NACS), Chevrolet (Bolt, Volt), Volkswagen (ID.4), Hyundai (Ioniq 5/6, Kona EV), Kia (EV6, Niro EV), BMW (i3, iX, i4 pre-NACS), Nissan (Leaf, Ariya), Toyota (bZ4X, Prius Prime), Honda (Prologue), and other J1772-equipped vehicles.

Newer 2025+ vehicles from Ford, GM, and Rivian ship with a NACS inlet. If your vehicle has a NACS inlet, order the NACS variant instead — same charger, different connector at the car end. Compare your charging port to the product photos before ordering; connector types vary by model year and market region.

How fast will it actually charge my car?

At 240V and 32A, the charger delivers up to 7.7 kW to the vehicle. That translates to roughly 20–30 miles of range added per hour on typical passenger EVs. Actual range added varies with vehicle efficiency, battery temperature, state of charge, and available power at the outlet — and large-battery vehicles such as electric trucks and full-size SUVs may take longer for a full charge.

For most drivers with an 8+ hour overnight parking window, 32A is enough to replace a typical day's driving. According to the US Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center, this is exactly the pattern most home charging follows:

“Many EV owners are able to meet their daily driving range requirements by charging overnight with Level 1 equipment, requiring no additional cost or installation, provided that a power outlet on a dedicated branch circuit is available near their parking location.”—US Department of Energy, Alternative Fuels Data Center

Level 2 at 7.7 kW is roughly six times faster than a standard 120V household outlet, which is why most owners upgrade to Level 2 within the first year of EV ownership.

Is my NEMA 14-50 outlet safe for it?

A properly installed 50A NEMA 14-50 circuit is designed to support continuous EV charging up to 40A (the 80% NEC continuous-load rule). The charger draws 32A continuous — well within a code-compliant 50A circuit's capacity. The variable that matters is not the amperage itself, but the outlet quality and installation.

Emporia's own NEMA 14-50 outlet-safety guidance describes the failure mode plainly:

“EV charging requires an outlet specifically designed for continuous, high-amperage loads, not just any 14-50 receptacle that happens to fit the plug.... Documented cases of NEMA 14-50 outlet failures from EV charging show scorched outlets, melted plugs, and smoke damage.”—Emporia Energy, NEMA 14-50 Outlet Safety

Before daily nightly charging, have a qualified electrician confirm your outlet is a commercial/industrial-grade NEMA 14-50 receptacle on a properly sized 50A dedicated circuit, and inspect for looseness, discoloration, or heat periodically. The US Department of Energy also notes that EV charging is treated as a continuous load under the National Electrical Code and that homeowners should evaluate electrical capacity before regular Level 2 use.

Key features

Made for the round J1772 charging port

Compatible with many model years of Ford, Chevrolet, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, and other J1772-equipped vehicles. Connector types can vary by model year — compare your charging port with the product photos before ordering.

32A Level 2 charging up to 7.7 kW

Adds approximately 20–30 miles of range per charging hour for everyday commuting and overnight charging. Actual speed depends on the vehicle, battery temperature, state of charge, and available power.

Direct NEMA 14-50 connection

The integrated plug connects directly to a compatible 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet — no separate adapter required. If the correct outlet already exists, no hardwiring or permanent wall charger is needed.

25 ft cable, no bulky control box

Reach across garages, driveways, and different parking positions. Electronics are integrated into the connector handle at the car end, so there is no heavy inline control box hanging mid-cable. Easier to coil, carry, and store.

Built-in temperature monitoring

The charger can reduce or stop charging if unusual heat is detected at the connector, supporting more dependable charging during extended sessions.

and IP55 weather-resistant

The IP55-rated construction supports indoor and outdoor charging when used as directed. Keep the outlet, plug, and connections away from standing water.

Home and travel use

Everyday home charger, workplace charger, vacation rental / Airbnb kit, RV park use, road-trip backup — anywhere a compatible NEMA 14-50 outlet is available and permitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers about compatibility, plug types, outlet matching, and charging speed.

Does this charger work on a standard 120V household outlet or a dryer outlet?

No. This is a 240V Level 2 charger with a fixed NEMA 14-50 plug and no built-in current derating for lower-rated circuits. It does not work on a standard 120V (NEMA 5-15) household outlet, a NEMA 14-30 or 10-30 dryer outlet, a NEMA TT-30 RV outlet, or a 120V generator. For those outlets, use a separately listed Level 1 cordset or a manufacturer-approved adapter setup designed for the specific circuit. See our guide: Level 1 vs Level 2 EV Charging: What's the Real Difference?

Which variant should I order — J1772 or NACS?

Order the connector that matches your vehicle's charging inlet. J1772 fits most non-Tesla EVs sold before 2025 (Ford, GM, Hyundai/Kia, VW, Nissan, and others). NACS fits Tesla vehicles and 2025+ NACS-native EVs from Ford, GM, Rivian, and other automakers transitioning to NACS. Compare your car's inlet with the product photos before ordering. For more on the NACS transition, see our guide: J1772 vs NACS: What's Actually Changing in 2026.

How long does it take to fully charge my EV?

At 240V and 32A, the charger delivers up to 7.7 kW. A typical mid-size EV with a 60–75 kWh battery will fully refill from empty in roughly 8–10 hours; large-battery vehicles such as electric trucks and full-size SUVs may take longer. Real-world times vary by vehicle efficiency, battery temperature, state of charge, and the vehicle's onboard charger acceptance rate. See what other Level 2 owners found: Renter in Boston — is a portable Level 2 actually enough for a Model 3 doing 40 mi/day?

Can I use this charger outdoors or in the rain?

Yes, when used as directed. The charger body is IP55-rated for dust and low-pressure water resistance. The connector-to-car interface is designed to seal when plugged into a compatible EV inlet. The exposed side is the wall outlet — keep the receptacle, plug, and cable connection protected from standing water. Never plug into a wet, loose, corroded, or damaged outlet. Related discussion: Charger keeps tripping the GFCI on damp mornings only — is that the outlet or the EVSE?

What warranty comes with the charger?

A 2-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, covering manufacturing defects and workmanship under normal use conditions. Full terms are on the return & refund policy page.

How many amps do I need — and can I adjust the amperage?

The WenStorm 32A portable delivers a fixed 32A output; it is not manually adjustable. 32A on a 240V circuit is enough to fully charge most passenger EVs overnight (8+ hour parking window). If your circuit or receptacle is rated for less than 32A continuous (for example, a 30A dryer circuit that would only permit 24A continuous under NEC continuous-load rules), this charger is not the right fit — use a manufacturer-approved EVSE designed with automatic current derating for that specific circuit instead. For more on sizing amperage to your circuit, see our guide: Portable EV Charger Buying Guide: The Spec Nobody Publishes.

What safety standards is this charger designed to?

This charger is designed to UL 2594 (Ed. 3) requirements, the Underwriters Laboratories standard for electric vehicle supply equipment. Learn more at our Certification Center.

Does it have a smartphone app or scheduled charging?

No. The WenStorm 32A portable is a standalone charger with no WiFi, no app, and no scheduling function on the unit itself. If you want scheduled charging (for time-of-use tariff optimization), use your vehicle's built-in charging schedule — every major EV sold in the US allows the driver to set a start time from the car's app or console. That gives the same tariff-timing benefit without a separate charger account.

How does this compare to Tesla's own Mobile Connector?

The Tesla Mobile Connector is Tesla's in-house Level 1 / Level 2 charger, sold with a 120V NEMA 5-15 adapter by default and requiring a separate purchase for a 240V NEMA 14-50 adapter. The WenStorm 32A NACS charger ships as a purpose-built 240V unit with the NEMA 14-50 plug fixed to the cable — no adapter juggling, no risk of leaving the 240V adapter at home. It also uses a connector-integrated electronics design instead of a mid-cable control box, so no brick hangs on the wall outlet. Overall a very well priced mobile connector for fast Level 2 EV charging.

A very well priced and practical mobile connector for your EV. You will need a NEMA 14-50 receptacle to use this mobile connector. Note this has a NACS (Tesla / J3400) connector but you can use a NACS to J1772 adapter with it for J1772 EV charging ports. The charging speed is the standout feature—it's legitimately much faster than a standard 120V outlet. I typically add 28 miles of range per hour depending on how I set the amps in my car, which means overnight charging gets me from low 20% to full easily. No more waking up to a barely charged car after forgetting to plug in early. The 25-foot cord gives plenty of reach—I can park in different spots in my garage without hassle, and the NACS connector inserts securely into the charge port.Build quality feels solid. The unit is IP55-rated so it can be used outdoors in uncovered parking spaces but I use it inside my garage. The LCD lights provide meaningful charging information.Easy to use and works well. It is compact and portable with a great design with all of the electronics in the handle.Overall a very well priced mobile connector for fast Level 2 EV charging.

Great portable Level 2 charger – reliable and fast

I've been using this WenStorm Level 2 charger for a little over two months now and have charged multiple vehicles with it. Overall, it has worked exactly as expected and has been very reliable.Charging speed is excellent for a portable unit. At 32A on a NEMA 14-50 outlet, it delivers noticeably faster charging than standard mobile connectors, and it’s been great for both home use and travel. The 25-foot cable is a big plus—long enough to comfortably reach vehicles in the driveway or deep in the garage. The cable itself feels heavy-duty and well made, with no excessive heat during long charging sessions.I also appreciate how portable this charger is. It’s lightweight, easy to store, and the included carrying case makes it convenient to take on trips, especially when staying somewhere with a 14-50 outlet like an RV park. The charging indicator lights are clear and helpful, and the weatherproof design gives peace of mind for outdoor use.The only issue I ran into was when trying to charge a Nissan Ariya using an adapter. The vehicle repeatedly stopped the charging session. I don’t believe this was a problem with the charger itself, as it has worked flawlessly with other vehicles, and adapter compatibility can vary depending on the car.Overall, this has been a solid, fast, and dependable Level 2 charger. If you’re looking for a portable NEMA 14-50 solution for Tesla or similar vehicles, this is a great option.

Great EV charger with an innovative all-in-one design, 32A, NEMA 14-50 and a Tesla tip.

This EV Charger by WenStorm, is a high value, solid option for any Tesla owner. Here are some of the things I’ve learned while owning it and a few things to consider before buying.I. Quality – This charger looks and feels like a well-made choice that appears to be made out of good quality materials. I’d put the overall quality in the upper-middle level of the quality scale and guess that it should last me for a long time.II. Performance – It’s been a great performer that’s easy to use, with a fairly high ability of 32 Amps max. This makes for a fairly fast charging speed, but not not super fast. It'll usually take me about 7-8 house to fill up. I use it on my Tesla 3, unless I need to get a quick, higher powered charge. Some are offering as high as 50A, but it’s rarely needed and comes with a high cost typically. The cables are thick for the amperage, well-made and 25 feet, which is the most common length currently. It doesn’t come with a wall mount for the charging end or the main unit or even a travel bag if you need to take it with you. However, they have incorporated the main unit right into the charging handle which I haven’t seen before. This makes it much more compact and easy to move around.Overall, this is an innovative, solid quality and great performing set-up. It really offers a great value currently and should keep most Tesla owners happy. I’ll be sure to update this review, if I ever start to have problems with it.You can trust that this review is simply my honest opinion that is attempting to provide you with helpful insight that I wish I had before I picked this product. Hopefully it was helpful in your decision.

Works best for NACs equipped cars. Avoid if you're Tesla only.

I got the NEMA 14-50 to NACs version and was weirded at first that there isn't a "traditional" box near the outlet. It's straight up plug to cord to handle setup. No display but does have lights to indicate the status. My NEMA 14-50 plug is a dedicated 50 amp circuit and this charger charges to the max of 7.2kW. Which is the max that NEMA 14-50 should be able to handle. While the listing is for both Tesla and NAC equipped cars, this is not the best for my Tesla Model Y. The handle doesn't have a button to stop charge so it will stay locked to my Tesla. I have to go into the car to hit the "unlock charge port" before im able to release the handle from the car. Super annoying. I do have a Kia EV9 with NACs and it works perfect for that. It immediately charges the EV9 without issue. I do wish it came with a carrying bag.

long cable and fast, reliable charging

We got this charger for our Tesla and it has been working great. Setup was simple and it plugged right into our NEMA 14-50 outlet with no issues. The charging speed is noticeably faster than our old mobile connector and it easily keeps our car ready to go.The 25-foot cable is a big plus. It gives plenty of reach in the garage and makes it easy to park without worrying about lining up perfectly with the outlet. The cable feels thick and well made and the handle fits securely into the charging port.We have had no problems with overheating or connection drops. It just works the way it should. It also feels sturdy enough to use for travel or as a backup charger. If you want a reliable Level 2 Tesla charger that is easy to use and delivers solid charging speed, this one has been a great choice for us.

Nice quality and works as intended

Excellent quality charger, very sturdy with a thick cable and great length to allow for easy plug in. It charges great overnight, functions as it should, and is a great value compared to other similar cables. We keep this as a spare in case our regular one goes down.

Solid, Fast Charger That’s Ready Before I Am

This Level 2 charger feels well‑built and thoughtfully designed, with a sturdy 25‑foot cable and a reliable NEMA 14‑50 plug that makes setup straightforward once you have the outlet in place. The 32A output delivers a noticeable boost in charging speed compared to standard options, and the unit itself feels durable enough for long‑term use. As a portable alternative to the Tesla mobile connector, it hits a sweet spot between convenience and performance.Of course, now I just have to wait for the Tesla to actually arrive—oh, yes, and for the electrician to install the outlet. But once everything is in place, this charger looks like it’ll be more than ready to keep up. For the price and build quality, it’s a great choice for anyone preparing their setup ahead of time.

Quality

I've been very impressed with this charger over the past month. It delivers everything I was hoping for and then some.It plugs into a standard NEMA 14-50 outlet and this 32A 240V charger gives real level 2 charging performance. The setup is as simple as it gets. No adapters, no extra cables, etc. The 25ft cable length is pretty much standard and for a reason, it's very convenient and gives plenty of reach whether you're charging in the garage or the driveway. The power, as advertised, of 7.68 kW charges my Tesla Model 3 noticeable faster than my previous charger. I get a consistent and reliable charge every time. It's great for topping up quickly between trips. It uses the NACS plug so you don't need any extra adapters when charging your Tesla. It feels like an OEM experience but at a better value and price. The quality is solid. The charger feels very well made. The cable is thick but flexible and the housing has held up well after regular use.Overall, this charger has exceeded my expectations. If you want fast, reliable charging with a quality build, this is a great option to consider.

If you like to visit campgrounds with your Tesla, this is the one

I got this WenStorm portable Level 2 charger to keep in the car specifically for camping with 14-50 outlets (which is like 80% of the RV parks I hit in the Cascades and Olympics). Plugs directly in, charges at full 32A/240V speed—7.68kW is plenty to recover a day’s driving overnight. The 25 ft heavy-duty cord gives me flexibility when the pedestal is awkwardly placed, and it’s weather-sealed so I don’t worry about dew or light rain. Easy to roll up, lightweight, and fits perfectly in the Model Y’s storage spots. No compatibility issues with NACS port, no error messages, just plug-and-charge bliss. Huge step up from the included mobile connector for travel. If you Tesla camp and see those 50A plugs, this is the one to keep onboard—worth every penny!

Very nice NACS charging cable for EVs

This is a very nice NACS charging cable for EVs. The cable is 25' long and is very good quality. This cable plugs into a NEMA 14-50 outlet (some folks might call it an RV 50 amp outlet) and the other end fits EVs with a NACS connector such as what Tesla uses. This will allow for level 2 charging at 32 amp.

Good charger for 32 amp.

The build quality was the first thing that caught my attention. The cable itself feels solid without being rigid or difficult to use, and it is noticeably thicker than the typical charging cable I have previously used. I feel more confident using it in colder weather or leaving it plugged in outside because the outer jacket appears to be made to withstand harsher circumstances. From the strain relief at both ends to the connectors, nothing about it feels weak. The largest improvement in everyday use is the charging speed. It is genuinely plug-and-play and offers a noticeable improvement over Level 1 charging when plugged into a NEMA 14-50 outlet. Rather than barely recharging the battery, it readily adds enough range for everyday errands and commuting over a regular overnight session. If you depend on home charging and do not want to schedule lengthy charge times, this makes a big difference. The 25-foot cable length has proven to be more beneficial than anticipated. The outlet in my garage is not in the ideal spot, and I have had to park very carefully with shorter wires. I can park normally with this one and still get to the charging station without the cord becoming tense. Additionally, I tested it in a driveway situation where the outlet was farther away, and the additional length allowed charging without requiring any rearrangements. It is small enough to fit in the trunk without taking up much room, and I have used it as a backup charger on a quick road trip. Being aware that I can connect to a compatible to Tesla Model S.You will not have to worry about where your next charge will come from when you carry this in your car. It simply gives me more peace of mind when I travel, which is why I enjoy it. The ease this cord offers was well worth the cost. It is lightweight and convenient to keep. The first thing that drew my notice was the build quality. The cable itself is substantially thicker than the standard charging cable I have used in the past and feels sturdy without being stiff or challenging to use. Because the outer jacket seems to be built to resist harder conditions, I feel more comfortable using it in colder weather or leaving it plugged in outside. Nothing about it feels fragile, from the connectors to the strain relief at both ends. The charging speed is the biggest increase for daily use. When plugged into a NEMA 14-50 outlet, it is truly plug-and-play and provides a discernible improvement over Level 1 charging. It easily adds enough range for daily activities and commuting over a typical overnight session, as opposed to barely recharging the battery. This makes a significant impact if you rely on home charging and do not want to plan long charge durations.
