What does a Mobile Connector on a random 120V outlet actually get you, realistically?

Been putting off asking this for a few months because I kept assuming someone else already asked it and I'd just find the answer searching around, but I haven't found a clear one yet. I'm nowhere close to getting permission for a real Wall Connector install here, that's a fight for another year, but there is a regular 120V outlet about fifteen feet from my assigned spot that nobody else seems to use. Before I buy a Mobile Connector and start relying on it nightly, I want a realistic sense of what that setup actually gets me, not the marketing number, the actual number from someone doing this daily.

120V on the Mobile Connector gets you roughly 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. Usable if you're plugged in overnight and your daily driving is under 40 miles, not usable if you're commuting long distance daily.

I've measured this on the Tesla Mobile Connector specifically and those numbers hold up. Other 120V EVSEs vary slightly but not by much.

One thing worth checking before relying on this daily: that outlet needs to be on its own circuit, not shared with anything else pulling load, or you risk nuisance tripping over months of nightly use.

how would i even find out if it's on its own circuit without an electrician coming out

Check your breaker panel labeling first, it's sometimes already marked. If it's not labeled or you're not sure, that's worth the one-time electrician visit rather than guessing and finding out the hard way.

Also worth using a heavier-gauge extension cord if the fifteen feet requires one at all, which it usually shouldn't for a wall-mounted outlet that close, but I've seen people run one anyway out of convenience and lose real charging speed to voltage drop.

Good call to check first — a lot of "random" extension cords are 16 AWG, which will heat up fast under a sustained draw overnight. If you go this route, look for a 12 AWG, outdoor-rated cord built for continuous duty, not just whatever's in the garage.

is level 1 rated for daily use or does it need something special for longer trips, i keep seeing people say it's fine but also seeing people say it's not

It's fine for daily use within its range limits. It's not fine as your only charging option if you regularly drive further than it can replenish overnight. Those are two different questions people keep mixing together.
