Picked up a near-new Atto 2 for $32K — what granny charger + cable combo should I actually run?
Picked this up secondhand through a dealer up here in Newcastle, low kays, still basically smells new inside. $32K all up, which felt like a proper deal for an Atto 2 once I did the sums against a new one. Only thing that came with it was a Type 2-to-Type 2 cable sitting in the boot — no granny charger, no adapter, nothing else. Previous owner had a wallbox at home apparently, so never needed one.
I'm on a standard GPO in the carport for now, no wallbox, not looking to spend big on an install while I work out how much I actually drive. Where do people actually buy a proper granny charger for one of these — Autobarn, Bunnings, straight through a BYD dealer, or one of the dedicated EV accessory places online? Want something that's actually certified and isn't going to cook my switchboard, but I also don't want to get talked into wallbox money for what's basically a glorified extension cord.

Buy the granny charger separate to any wallbox decision — BYD's own accessories catalogue has a 10A unit for around $350-400, genuinely certified to AS/NZS 3112, same one plenty of Atto 3 owners run. A few of the sub-$300 no-name listings look identical on spec but skip the local compliance testing. Check for the marking moulded onto the housing itself, not just printed on the box.

Get that GPO checked before you commit to running it every night long-term. A carport outlet sharing a circuit with a fridge or freezer is how switchboards end up cooked after a few months of steady draw. Doesn't need a full install, just get someone out to confirm it's not doubled up first.
How would I actually find that out without pulling the switchboard apart myself? House isn't old, only about six years, if that changes anything.

Whatever you land on, check the housing temperature on the hot days too. Mine gets properly warm to touch by afternoon up here, nobody ever mentions that bit in the reviews.
