GWM Ora dealer's "free portable charger" is a mystery-brand 10A cord — take it or buy my own?
Signing the paperwork on the Ora this week, novated through work same as it sounds like a few people here have done. Trading in the Atto 3 as part of the deal — numbers worked out better through the novated route than I expected, so figured I'd switch instead of just adding a second car. Salesman mentioned they'll "throw in" a portable charger with the car — no brand on it that he could point to, no certification sticker, no mention of a return policy if it turns out to be dodgy. I've seen a couple of threads on here about cheap granny chargers overheating GPOs, so now I'm second-guessing just taking it. Is it worth accepting the free one and swapping it out later if it's actually bad, or should I just say no thanks and buy my own from day one? Not totally sure how much leverage I've got left at this point in the sale anyway, or if it even matters that much.

Ask him to show you the compliance plate before you sign off on anything else. No AS/NZS 3112 marking, no rating plate on the housing itself — that's not a portable charger, that's a fire risk with a badge stuck on it. Had two of these mystery units come through for warranty work after cooking a GPO. Buy your own, it's a $300-400 spend that'll outlast the car.
Would a decent portable one actually cope if it ends up being your only charging option most weeks? Trying to work out if that's asking too much of a granny charger or if it's genuinely fine long-term.
Is the AS/NZS 3112 marking something printed right on the charger housing, or does it usually just show up on the box it came in?

GWM's aftersales varies a lot dealer to dealer on exactly this. Some hand over a proper branded unit off the shelf, others give whatever's cheapest in the warehouse that week. Worth asking specifically which brand it actually is before you decide, not just whether one's included.
How would I actually find out which one my specific dealer hands over before delivery day — just ask outright, or is there a better way to word it?

Genuine question from someone still in the research phase — does a bad portable charger actually risk the car's battery itself, or is it purely the house wiring copping the consequences?

Wish mine had come with one. Ended up buying my own after three days of getting absolutely nowhere with the dealer on mine.
