Level 1 charging in real winter — does it actually keep up with a daily commute?
Moved to a new house in southern New Hampshire this past March, about 40 minutes from the office in Nashua, five days a week. Round trip works out to almost exactly 34 miles most days, maybe a little more if I swing by the grocery store on the way home. The old house had a 240V outlet in the garage that a previous owner put in for a hot tub, close enough that I got an L2 charger hardwired to it years ago. This place just has a standard outlet, and the electrician I called back in April quoted me for a panel upgrade before he can even run a new circuit. Panel's on backorder until at least October, so I've been on 120V since I moved in.
I've had the Bolt EUV four years now, so this isn't new-EV panic, I know roughly what L1 does in mild weather. It's kept up fine since March. What I don't have real experience with is what a proper cold snap does to it, because the old house never made me find out. First hard freeze warning came through last week, upper teens overnight for three or four nights in a row, and I'd rather know what I'm walking into before it happens than find out at 6am already running late.
I plug in around 6:30pm most nights and unplug around 6:15am, so just under 12 hours most weeknights. Is that enough once it actually gets cold, or is 34 miles a day the kind of number that stops working once the temperature drops? Trying to figure out if I need to change something before this happens, not after.

34 miles at 3-5 mi/hr needs 7-11 hours, and you're plugging in for almost 12 — real margin in normal weather. Minnesota here, same range class vehicle. Worth watching what a hard cold snap actually does to that math before you assume it holds.

What's the Bolt doing when it's below freezing on your account — have you got scheduled departure set up at all, or just plug in and walk away? That setting changes this more than most people realize.
The general mechanism is the same one that shows up in every cold-weather L1 thread: some of what's coming in gets diverted to keep the battery warm instead of adding range, so the net gain overnight shrinks. What's more useful for your specific situation is what scheduled departure actually does about it. Set a departure time in the app and the car front-loads battery and cabin preconditioning while it's still plugged in, pulling that energy from the wall. Skip it and the car does the same warm-up on your drive instead, pulling it from the battery you just charged. Someone ran the numbers on a Tesla forum — different car, 20% battery leaving cold vs 5% preconditioned.
Six winters in Michigan, never once set a departure time, just plug in and drive. Never got stranded. Might be a Bolt-specific thing, or might just be that Michigan's cold isn't Manitoba cold. Either way I wouldn't panic into an app setting before testing your own commute first.
Fair, and plenty of shorter commutes never hit the wall on this at all. The margin is what matters — six winters without a departure schedule tells me your daily number has room to spare, not that the setting doesn't do anything. At 34 miles a day OP has less room than either of us to find that out the hard way.

Wisconsin, four winters, 36 miles round trip to the plant most days. Some Januaries the margin just isn't there. Three or four mornings a year I've plugged in for the full 11 hours overnight and gained less than 20 miles back. Scheduled departure helps some, but at my mileage it doesn't fully close the gap.

Moving the car into the garage instead of the driveway helped more than I expected, even unheated. Cold soak overnight is worse exposed to open air and wind than in a closed unheated space. Didn't fix everything, but it's free and it helped.

Colorado, outdoor Level 2 not L1, so different setup, but I'll push back a little on that one — an unheated garage is still close to outside temperature by morning, just without wind chill. Helps some. Wouldn't count on it to bridge a real margin problem the way scheduled departure or an actual heated space would.

Five years here, Vermont. The weeks that actually worry me, I don't try to make L1 do all the work. Just a top-up at the public L2 near the office once or twice a week during the worst stretch. Costs a little, saves the stress of guessing every morning whether I made it back to full.

About 14 miles round trip here, upstate NY. Winter's never touched my charging, doesn't come close to using the full window. Different problem entirely at 34 or 36 miles round trip.
