BYD Atto 3 on novated lease — can a home wall connector install actually go through the running cost bundle?
Got the Atto 3 on a novated lease back in February, cheapest option that ticked the FBT exemption box, which was basically the whole reason I went this route in the first place. Now trying to sort out proper home charging instead of just running the granny charger the car came with.
Called my novated provider about bundling an Ocular Home Plus wall connector install into the lease running costs and got told charging equipment isn't "standard" but they might allow it if I get a quote first and submit it. Anyone actually gotten a wall connector install through their lease this way? Trying to work out if it's worth the hassle of chasing quotes through the provider or if I should just pay for it myself and forget the lease angle entirely.

Got told almost the same thing when I asked about bundling anything outside fuel and servicing — 'not standard' seems to be the stock line. Never actually pushed for equipment specifically though, only ever asked about running costs on mine.

Not on a lease at all, still deep in research mode, but genuinely curious what an Ocular Home Plus quote actually comes in at for people. Mine was higher than I expected when I got a number a few weeks back.
Sparky quoted me $650 for the unit and install, before I'd even found out whether any of it could go through the lease. Might just pay it myself and not bother chasing the provider on it.
That's lower than what I got quoted here in Hobart, closer to $900. Did yours include much conduit run or was it a pretty straightforward wall right next to the switchboard?
Pretty straightforward for me, garage wall's basically right next to the board so barely any run at all. Probably explains most of the gap between our two numbers.

Still just on the granny charger here, haven't looked at a proper wallbox at all yet. Following this one out of curiosity more than needing the answer myself right now.

Heard the exact same 'not standard' line from a couple of other Atto 3 owners in a group chat I'm in. None of them had actually gotten it approved yet either, far as I know.
Did any of them keep pushing after the knockback, or did everyone just drop it and pay out of pocket like I'm leaning toward?
One bloke in the chat kept at it for a few weeks and ended up getting a quote through the provider approved eventually. Rest of us gave up a lot sooner than he did.
Good to know it's not a flat no across the board then. Think I'll actually put a proper quote in for mine now, seemed pointless bothering before hearing that.
Put the $650 quote in through the provider like bazza_w's mate did. Two weeks so far, no answer either way — will update if it actually gets approved or if I just end up paying it myself before they respond.

No home charging option where I am at all so this is a bit aspirational reading for me, but genuinely curious how it plays out for you either way.

Own mine outright so there's no lease provider in the mix for me, but my own sparky's quote was about $700 all up if that's a useful data point next to the others here.

does going through the provider for something like this actually end up cheaper after their margin, or does it just save you the hassle of paying upfront?
Based on the quotes floating around this thread, no - once the provider's margin gets added it tends to land at or above what a sparky charges you directly, not below it. The actual saving isn't really about them getting you a discount, it's that it comes out of pre-tax income through the lease instead of your take-home pay. Compare sticker price to sticker price and paying out of pocket usually wins, the tax treatment is where the provider route makes its money back for you.

The FBT exemption is about the car itself and its private use, not equipment - it takes the benefit of having the vehicle off the FBT calculation entirely, but that's specific to the vehicle, not anything bolted onto your garage wall. Charging equipment and installation get treated as a separate benefit if an employer's paying for them, and running-cost bundles in most novated leases are built around ongoing stuff like electricity and servicing, not one-off capital purchases like a wall connector. That's probably why bennyboy21's provider called it 'non-standard' instead of a flat no - it's not disallowed under the exemption, it just doesn't naturally fit inside what a running-cost bundle is designed to cover.
