Woke up to my outdoor charger handle frozen solid after last night's ice storm.
The cable is stiff as a rock and I can't unplug the car. Is it safe to pour warm water on it? Will this damage the charger or my EV? Any tips for handling this in the future?

I'm a little freaked out—my charger was covered in ice this morning and the cable wouldn't bend.
Is this normal for IP66-rated chargers? Should I be worried about water getting inside? The manual is not clear. Do people use covers or just leave them exposed?

Can someone explain what IP66 actually means?
Does it really protect against ice and snow, or just rain? Also, how is IP66 different from NEMA 4 or NEMA 3R? I'm trying to figure out if I need to upgrade my charger after this storm.

I've used my outdoor charger for three winters now.
I always keep the connector off the ground and avoid letting ice build up. A simple plastic cover helped, but you have to make sure it doesn't trap moisture. Most problems are manageable with a little routine care.
