Which EVs does it fit?

The J1772 variant fits any US-market EV or plug-in hybrid with a J1772 charging port. That includes many model years of Ford (Mach-E, Escape PHEV, F-150 Lightning pre-NACS), Chevrolet (Bolt, Volt), Volkswagen (ID.4), Hyundai (Ioniq 5/6, Kona EV), Kia (EV6, Niro EV), BMW (i3, iX, i4 pre-NACS), Nissan (Leaf, Ariya), Toyota (bZ4X, Prius Prime), Honda (Prologue), and other J1772-equipped vehicles.

Newer 2025+ vehicles from Ford, GM, and Rivian ship with a NACS inlet. If your vehicle has a NACS inlet, order the NACS variant instead — same charger, different connector at the car end. How fast will it actually charge my car?

At 240V and 32A, the charger delivers up to 7.7 kW to the vehicle. That translates to roughly 20–30 miles of range added per hour on typical passenger EVs. Actual range added varies with vehicle efficiency, battery temperature, state of charge, and available power at the outlet — and large-battery vehicles such as electric trucks and full-size SUVs may take longer for a full charge.

Is my NEMA 14-50 outlet safe for it?

A properly installed 50A NEMA 14-50 circuit is designed to support continuous EV charging up to 40A (the 80% NEC continuous-load rule). The charger draws 32A continuous — well within a code-compliant 50A circuit's capacity. The variable that matters is not the amperage itself, but the outlet quality and installation.

Before daily nightly charging, have a qualified electrician confirm your outlet is a commercial/industrial-grade NEMA 14-50 receptacle on a properly sized 50A dedicated circuit, and inspect for looseness, discoloration, or heat periodically. Does this charger work on a standard 120V household outlet or a dryer outlet?

No. This is a 240V Level 2 charger with a fixed NEMA 14-50 plug and no built-in current derating for lower-rated circuits. It does not work on a standard 120V (NEMA 5-15) household outlet, a NEMA 14-30 or 10-30 dryer outlet, a NEMA TT-30 RV outlet, or a 120V generator. Can I use this charger outdoors or in the rain?

Yes, when used as directed. The charger body is IP55-rated for dust and low-pressure water resistance. The connector-to-car interface is designed to seal when plugged into a compatible EV inlet. How many amps do I need — and can I adjust the amperage?

The WenStorm 32A portable delivers a fixed 32A output; it is not manually adjustable. 32A on a 240V circuit is enough to fully charge most passenger EVs overnight (8+ hour parking window). If your circuit or receptacle is rated for less than 32A continuous (for example, a 30A dryer circuit that would only permit 24A continuous under NEC continuous-load rules), this charger is not the right fit — use a manufacturer-approved EVSE designed with automatic current derating for that specific circuit instead. Is it UL-listed or ETL-listed? What's the difference?

ETL Listed by Intertek. UL and Intertek (ETL) are both Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) recognized by OSHA, and both test EVSE products to the same underlying standards (including UL 2594 for electric vehicle supply equipment). ETL and UL marks are functionally equivalent for regulatory and insurance purposes; they represent independent third-party safety testing. Does it have a smartphone app or scheduled charging?

No. The WenStorm 32A portable is a standalone charger with no WiFi, no app, and no scheduling function on the unit itself. If you want scheduled charging (for time-of-use tariff optimization), use your vehicle's built-in charging schedule — every major EV sold in the US allows the driver to set a start time from the car's app or console.
